Bulk Kerbside Collection Service

Items which are too bulky, too heavy or too big to be collected in your bins may be collected as a bulk kerbside collection. The Central Coast Council provides its residents with up to 6 on-call collections every year. Each collection must be no more than 2 cubic metres in size, which is roughly the carrying capacity of a standard box trailer. A kerbside collection can be arranged for garden and vegetation or for general household items.

Please review the following guidelines prior to booking this service.

Bookings are essential – Scroll down this page to find out how to book this service, including a link to our online booking website.

Bulk Kerbside Collection Guidelines

To ensure your materials are collected, please follow these guidelines:

How much waste to place out for collection:

  • Households with a standard domestic service are entitled to 6 bulk kerbside collections per year
  • The maximum size of one collection is for 2 cubic metres (roughly the carrying capacity of a standard box trailer)
  • If bulk general items and bulky garden vegetation are placed out at the same time, they must be placed neatly in separate piles. This will count as at least 2 kerbside collections
  • Bulk kerbside entitlements are reset annually on 1 February

Please note: If you have placed out more than 2 cubic metres of waste, the collections may be taken from your entitlements until removal is complete. If there are no entitlements remaining, the waste will be left at the kerbside for you to dispose of yourself.

Two Cubic Metres is 2 metres wide by 1 metre high and 1 metre deep.

How to present the bulk material for collection:

  • You must book your bulk kerbside collection before placing your items out for collection
  • Once booked, please ensure your bulk collection material is placed at the kerbside the night before
  • Material must not be placed out for collection more than a day before your service
  • Place items on the kerb in front of your own property at your normal bin collection point
  • Items must be placed out neatly to ensure our staff can safely access and handle your items
  • Material must not obstruct footpaths, walkways or disrupt pedestrian travel
  • Do not place items out that are unsuitable for collection – they will not be collected
  • Do not place hazardous items out for collection, these items can pose a risk to the community and our staff when removing these items from the kerbside. For disposal of chemicals, paints, motor oils, gas bottles and car batteries please utilise Councils Chemical Collection Service. Please dispose of needles and syringes via disposafit bins located in public hospitals, Council amenity buildings and some local pharmacies. Visit our Safe Syringe Disposal Page for further information.
  • If bulk general items and bulky garden vegetation are placed out at the same time, they must be placed in separate piles. This will count as 2 kerbside collections
  • Material must not exceed 1.8 metres in length
  • General waste and recyclables that are normally disposed of in your red and yellow lid bin service are not accepted as part of the bulk collection service, including food waste, food packaging, bottles and cans.
  • Vegetation waste should be tied in manageable bundles with natural twine
  • Stumps and logs must not exceed 30cm in diameter
  • Material must be light enough to be reasonably removed by two people
  • Small items should be tied, wrapped, bagged or boxed
  • Loose garden vegetation such as grass clippings and mulch must be bagged or boxed

Metal and whitegoods:

  • All accepted metal items placed out for a bulk kerbside collection, including whitegoods, are recycled as part of the service
  • Central Coast Council separates the metal items for recycling on-site before sending the rest to the landfill

When the collection will take place:

  • Bulk kerbside collection will take place during the next garbage collection day, provided the booking is made at least one full business day before
  • Otherwise, the collection will take place the following week. For example: Bookings made on Monday are eligible for a Wednesday collection, while a booking for Monday collection must be made on the Thursday prior
