Bulk Kerbside Collection Service Items which are too bulky, too heavy or too big to be collected in your bins may be collected as a bulk kerbside collection. The Central Coast Council provides its residents with up to 6 on-call collections every year. Each collection must be no more than 2 cubic metres in size, which is roughly the carrying capacity of a standard box trailer. A kerbside collection can be arranged for garden and vegetation or for general household items. Please review the following guidelines prior to booking this service. Bulk Kerbside Collection Guidelines To ensure your materials are collected, please follow these guidelines: How much waste to place out for collection: Households with a standard domestic service are entitled to 6 bulk kerbside collections per year The maximum size of one collection is for 2 cubic metres (roughly the carrying capacity of a standard box trailer) If bulk general items and bulky garden vegetation are placed out at the same time, they must be placed neatly in separate piles. This will count as at least 2 kerbside collections Bulk kerbside entitlements are reset annually on 1 February Please note: If you have placed out more than 2 cubic metres of waste, the collections may be taken from your entitlements until removal is complete. If there are no entitlements remaining, the waste will be left at the kerbside for you to dispose of yourself. How to present the bulk material for collection: You must book your bulk kerbside collection before placing your items out for collection Once booked, please ensure your bulk collection material is placed at the kerbside the night before Material must not be placed out for collection more than a day before your service Place items on the kerb in front of your own property at your normal bin collection point Items must be placed out neatly to ensure our staff can safely access and handle your items Material must not obstruct footpaths, walkways or disrupt pedestrian travel Do not place items out that are unsuitable for collection – they will not be collected Do not place hazardous items out for collection, these items can pose a risk to the community and our staff when removing these items from the kerbside. For disposal of chemicals, paints, motor oils, gas bottles and car batteries please utilise Councils Chemical Collection Service. Please dispose of needles and syringes via disposafit bins located in public hospitals, Council amenity buildings and some local pharmacies. This will count as 2 kerbside collections Material must not exceed 1.8 metres in length General waste and recyclables that are normally disposed of in your red and yellow lid bin service are not accepted as part of the bulk collection service, including food waste, food packaging, bottles and cans. Vegetation waste should be tied in manageable bundles with natural twine Stumps and logs must not exceed 30cm in diameter Material must be light enough to be reasonably removed by two people Small items should be tied, wrapped, bagged or boxed Loose garden vegetation such as grass clippings and mulch must be bagged or boxed Metal and whitegoods: All accepted metal items placed out for a bulk kerbside collection, including whitegoods, are recycled as part of the service Central Coast Council separates the metal items for recycling on-site before sending the rest to the landfill When the collection will take place: Bulk kerbside collection will take place during the next garbage collection day, provided the booking is made at least one full business day before Otherwise, the collection will take place the following week. For example: Bookings made on Monday are eligible for a Wednesday collection, while a booking for Monday collection must be made on the Thursday prior To learn about the items we collect, see below: Bulk Kerbside Collections – General Household Accepted ItemsIMPORTANT NOTE ABOUT ASBESTOS AND FIBRO PRODUCTS Composite compressed boards (as described below) are NOT permitted to be placed in your bulk kerbside collection. If any of these items are detected CLEANAWAY is unable to collect any of your bulk waste. Non-conforming products include: fibro of any kind (new or old), asbestos sheeting, fibre cement sheeting, fibre reinforced cement product, Blue Board, Hardiplank or any compressed fibre sheeting. CLEANAWAY on behalf of Central Coast Council further reserves the right to refuse to collect loads containing this material or any material resembling these types of products due to the risk they may contain asbestos fibres. Bulk Kerbside Collections – General Household Not Accepted ItemsThe following items are not accepted in this service and will not be removed from the kerbside: Glass or mirrors including glass panes from windows, table tops, furniture with glass doors or any item containing sheet glass Hazardous wastes such as paints, asbestos sheeting, chemicals, unwanted medicines and liquids Tyres Car parts Commercial waste Building materials including bricks, tiles, Gyprock, concrete, etc. Fencing Composite compressed boards including: fibro of any kind (new or old), asbestos sheeting, fibre cement sheeting, fibre reinforced cement product, Blue Board, Hardiplank or any compressed fibre sheeting. Garden waste – including vegetation, soil, rocks, etc. Material which cannot be reasonably removed by two people Material which is longer than 1.8 metres in length What happens to my Bulk Kerbside Collection?All items that are not made of metal that are placed out for a Bulk Kerbside General Household Collection are disposed of in local landfills. If your items are still good quality, consider donating them to a charity, selling them online or having a garage sale! Bulk Kerbside Collections – Garden Vegetation Accepted ItemsThe following items are accepted in this service: Tree branches Garden vegetation Stumps and logs (must not exceed 30cm in diameter) Untreated timber (untreated, not painted, no nails) Bulk Garden Vegetation is preferred tied in manageable bundles with natural twine. Loose vegetation such as grass and mulch must be placed out in boxes or bags, however the driver will empty the contents into the back of the vehicle and leave the boxes or bags on your kerbside for you to dispose of. Please note: bags may be ripped/torn to efficiently remove garden vegetation. If you wish to use the bags again, please advise us of this at the time of booking and attach a note on the bag for the driver to see. Bulk Kerbside Collections – Garden Vegetation Not Accepted ItemsThe following items are not accepted in this service and will not be removed from the kerbside: Dirt Soil Rocks Food waste Chemically treated, painted or stained timber Items which are not garden vegetation Material which cannot be reasonably removed by two people Material which is longer than 1.8 metres in length Stumps or logs which exceed 30cm in diameter Any vegetation that contains thorns What happens to my Bulk Garden Vegetation Collection?Cleanaway delivers the material to a commercial composting facility. A number of products are produced at the facilities, including mulches, organic fertilisers, landscape soils, potting mixes and top dressing, which are sold to various landscaping industries. Important note about batteries inside items Ensure batteries are removed from items before placing them out for collection. Batteries are commonly found in children’s ride on toys, remote control cars, hand tools, vaping devices, mobile phones, tablets, laptops, E-Bikes, electric toothbrushes, hoverboards and electric scooters. If batteries are left in these items they can pose a serious risk to our collection drivers, processing staff and the community if they ignite whilst being collected.
